While mediation is less formal than court, having an attorney can be helpful to ensure your rights are protected and that any proposed agreement is fair and legally sound. Some parties attend mediation with counsel, while others consult their attorney before or after sessions.

Legal mediation is a structured, confidential process where a neutral third party helps disputing parties work toward a voluntary resolution. The mediator does not decide the outcome but facilitates communication and negotiation to help reach a mutually acceptable agreement.

Unlike litigation, mediation is collaborative rather than adversarial. It is typically faster, more flexible, and less formal than court proceedings, allowing parties to retain control over the outcome instead of having a judge decide the dispute.

Mediation can be effective for many types of disputes, including business conflicts, contract disputes, real estate matters, insurance claims, employment issues, homeowner association disputes, and certain personal injury or civil matters.
